I discovered CSR and ESG through the social prism. My commitment has its roots in a family environment dedicated to supporting others, deeply involved within the Salvation Army.
Early on, I volunteered in development programs with triple economic, social, and environmental ambitions, particularly in the Global South. Inspired by Mohammed Yunus and his concept of social business, I had the realization: to understand that business models with a positive impact could transform our societies. This conviction still accompanies me today and guides my vision of the role of companies in building a fairer world.

nathanaël westphal
Why did you choose to get involved in sustainable development?
When I founded NSW Conseil in 2016, CSR was still a topic reserved for large groups. Working with smaller structures represented a challenge, but also a tremendous opportunity to innovate and find tipping points to make CSR and ESG a strategic priority.
This period allowed me to multiply missions and train in the most recent standards and methodologies. At the same time, I held various roles, from Corporate CSR Manager to ESG Manager in private equity, along with multidisciplinary missions.
This diversity provided me with comprehensive expertise, both strategic and operational, to support both companies and investors in their sustainable transitions.
What characterizes your journey in the field of CSR and ESG?
I prioritize a hands-on approach, working closely with teams and placing the human element at the heart of each initiative. For me, the true levers for sustainable transformation are found in collaboration on the ground, where solutions come to life.
Furthermore, I strive to make my support pragmatic and concrete. This involves creating customized and standardized tools designed to simplify processes, lighten the workload of teams, and allow them to focus on what truly matters. My goal is to support my clients in endeavors that yield tangible results, while remaining accessible and adapted to their reality.
How does your approach stand out?
Since 2014, convinced of the central role of companies in sustainability issues, I have been working on a thesis on the subject while starting my consulting activity.
I initially supported large investors and European institutions, before focusing on mid-size companies, which require pragmatic and effective solutions to maximize their impact.
As an expert in regulation, finance, and corporate strategy applied to sustainability, I share my expertise through my consulting activity, as a trainer in MBA programs and for sustainability auditors, and through my contributions to academic and scientific reflections.
