I discovered CSR and ESG through the social lens. My commitment is rooted in a family environment dedicated to supporting others, deeply involved in the Salvation Army.
Early on, I volunteered in development programs with a triple economic, social, and environmental ambition, particularly in countries of the Global South. Inspired by Mohammed Yunus and his concept of social business, I had an epiphany: understanding that positive-impact business models could transform our societies. This conviction still guides me today and shapes my vision of the role of companies in building a fairer world.

nathanaël westphal
Why did you choose to get involved in sustainable development?
When I founded NSW CONSEIL in 2016, CSR was still a topic reserved for large corporations. Working with smaller organizations represented a challenge, but also a tremendous opportunity to innovate and find the tipping points to make CSR and ESG a strategic priority.
This period allowed me to multiply assignments and train in the most recent frameworks and methodologies. At the same time, I held various roles, from CSR Manager in companies to ESG Manager in private equity, as well as multisector missions.
This diversity offered me comprehensive expertise, both strategic and operational, to support both companies and investors in their sustainable transitions.
What characterizes your background in the field of CSR and ESG?
I favor a hands on approach, working closely with teams and putting people at the heart of every initiative. For me, the real drivers of lasting transformation are found in collaboration on the ground, where solutions come to life.
Furthermore, I strive to make my support pragmatic and concrete. This involves creating customized and standardized tools, designed to simplify processes, reduce teams' workloads and allow them to focus on what matters most. My goal is to support my clients in initiatives that produce tangible results, while remaining accessible and tailored to their reality.
How is your approach different?
Since 2014, convinced of the central role of companies in sustainability issues, I have been conducting a thesis on the subject while starting my consulting activity.
I first supported major investors and European institutions, before focusing on mid-size companies, which require pragmatic and effective solutions to maximize their impact.
As an expert in regulation, finance, and corporate strategy applied to sustainability, I share my expertise through my consulting activity, as a trainer in MBA programs and for sustainability auditors, and through my contributions to academic and scientific reflections.

My approach is based on a combination of strategic analysis and operational management.
